North Carolina police recently arrested nine people they believe were involved in a drug distribution ring. Authorities claim that they seized illegal substances, firearms, cash and other items during the operation. The original investigation apparently centered on just two individuals, who are both facing multiple drug charges.

Police seize fentanyl

Over the course of the entire investigation, police seized approximately 19 kilograms of the illegal substance fentanyl. The involved officers executed a search warrant related to the investigation on March 4, 2021, where they seized more than 5 kilograms of fentanyl. Officers also found:

  • 13 firearms
  • Approximately $800,000 in cash
  • High end vehicles
  • Jewelry

There were also nine arrests made in association with the search warrant. However, police say they expect to make more arrests in the near future and may also file additional charges against those who have already been arrested. Charges that some of the defendants are already facing include:

  • Continuing criminal enterprise
  • Conspiracy to traffic opium
  • Conspiracy to traffic heroin
  • Conspiracy to traffic cocaine

Being accused of committing a drug crime has the power to alter the path of someone’s life. Rather than seeking out new employment or educational opportunities, defendants have to instead focus on minimizing potential consequences. Jail time, steep fines and a criminal history are all serious possibilities for those facing drug charges. Defendants in North Carolina who are struggling with this or a similar situation who are interested in learning more about their options may want to reach out to a knowledgeable attorney for guidance.
