Police in North Carolina recently arrested a man for his alleged involvement in drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession. He is currently facing many criminal charges, including for trafficking cocaine and possession of marijuana with the intent to sell. The judge hearing the case denied the defendant any bond.
Investigating a community tip
According to authorities, a tip from a member of the community initially started the investigation into the 36-year-old man and the home in which he was residing. The investigation ultimately led to police securing a search warrant in Dec. 2021. After executing the search warrant, police claim they found a wide range of illicit substances and firearms, including:
- Methamphetamine
- Cocaine
- Heroin
- MDMA
- Fentanyl
- Stolen firearms
- Firearms with removed or altered serial numbers
These were not the only items that police seized that day. According to records, they also seized two vehicles, over $1,500 in cash and an assortment of prescription medicine. Investigators believe that the street value of all the drugs that were seized total close to $3.6 million.
North Carolina law treats drug offenses very seriously, and defendants may face a wide range of possible legal and personal consequences. Long prison sentences and steep fines are not at all uncommon, and it can be difficult to find and maintain gainful employment with a criminal history. As minimizing consequences related to criminal charges is often a priority for defendants, most are well advised to begin a thorough review of all charges and evidence in as timely a manner as possible.
