In some cases, it might take little more than a burnt-out taillight or a minor traffic violation to prompt a routine traffic stop. Being involved in a similar situation can be stressful enough as is, but things could grow even more complex should authorities begin to suspect the presence of unlawful behavior. A man is now facing numerous drug charges following a recent traffic stop that led to the search of a vehicle in North Carolina.

Incident report

Law enforcement agents advised that the incident began when they initiated a traffic stop on a recent Tuesday. While no information was provided as to the reasons behind the traffic stop, reports indicate that authorities proceeded to call for a K-9 unit to search the vehicle. This search allegedly led to the unearthing of various quantities of methamphetamine and fentanyl, along with a gun and unspecified prescription medications.

Following the incident, authorities say they obtained and executed a warrant to search a storage unit. They claim that this search led to the discovery of nearly 50 grams of fentanyl, a large sum of cash, and multiple firearms. The man is currently facing numerous charges in relation to the incident, including allegations of drug trafficking and possession, and reports indicate that he remains in custody while awaiting future court proceedings.

Seeking guidance

Individuals who face drug charges and wish to better understand their rights and options could consider retaining the services of an attorney in the early stages of the process. An attorney in North Carolina can examine the charges and evidence against a client and provide insight on the best course of action with which to proceed. If a conviction cannot be avoided, an attorney can help a client prepare to seek the most favorable outcome possible regarding his or her future given the circumstances.
